Rayne's Challenge By Almasy
Part One- An Obstacle to Overcome
I slept in my family's den cuddled up next to my older brother, Gremio. Gremio and I were the only greens in the family. My five brothers were red and blue and my five sisters were yellow and blue. Gremio nudged me with his nose telling me to move. I opened up one eye and looked up at him. He yawned then stretched. He put on the sunglasses that usually nestled on his forehead so snugly, like the way the way the Usul's nest sits in the tree. I got up and stretched as well. I sniffed the fresh winter morning air that made it's way into the den was so crisp and clear.
The two of us made our way out of the den. The Wocky village was very calm and tranquil at this time, it was a beautiful sort of peacefulness. Soon though, the town would be busy, full of the sights and sounds of many different coloured Wockys. Today, Gremio and I were going to go over the Wocky Mountains to the Lupe Village. I usually go to school on this day, but I wanted to go with my brother.
We started trekking through the small desert before the mountains. Tumbleweeds rolled by us, and I wanted to chase them, but I had to resist if I wanted to go on more outings like this. I tried my hardest to keep up with Gremio, but he moved much faster than me. I had to run, so I tired out quickly. Thankfully, we were at the small river that ran through the desert so I got to restore my energy.
"Rayne, you gotta use your energy wisely. We could run into a Grarrl or even a Skeith or a Korbat! If you get hurt, Ma will kill me" he told me. "I understand your fear of getting attacked by a Grarrl or a Skeith, but what's with being scared of a Korbat?" I asked. "They're big! Now, we should move along now, the Sand Worms might want Wocky for breakfast and we ain't gonna be Sand Worm bait!" he said. As were started going up the cliff, I kept nearly slipping. Gremio helped me up thankfully. Although I wasn't a little Wocky, I was a young one, old enough to take care of myself, Gremio was still always there to help me out. He was much more experienced at climbing, and I was, well, not.
As we neared the top, I lost my footing and began falling down to the hungry Sand Worms below. Gremio acted quickly. He ran down the mountain and made a flying leap for me. I was still in mid-air, which made things a little difficult. He caught me though, and began climbing the mountain again with me hanging by the scruff of my neck in-between his teeth. We made it to the top and he let me go.
This was one obstacle in my life that I needed to overcome, one day...
